Motorbike Transporters

I’m buying a motorbike from Dehradun but I reside in Chennai. What documentation should I keep in mind and tips?
I’m planning transport of the bike, which is better and safer? -The Indian Railways, some road transporter or a better suggestion… also what documents should I leave on the bike and some transporting tips. P.S the bike is a second hand Enfield Bullet.
Well the railways are the best bet. Drain it of all fuel. If possible, drain the oil as well. Wheel it to the nearest station. They will stuff it with packing on all the sides, leaving just enough to wheel the bike into the wagon.
Actually you should buy a second hand from your own state, i.e. Tamil Nadu. You have no idea, of the amount of paper work involved when taking a bike across from one state to another. You will first need a NOC from the previous owner and his local RTO office. Armed with this, you can then take the bike to your state. There you produce this NOC to your RTO office and apply for a new transfer of ownership. If your bike is over 15 years you will need a passing certificate as well.
